Our first in-person RE-IMAGINE-CROPS event concluded with a dynamic discussion panel titled Revolution of Imaging in Digital Precision Agriculture: Educational, Research, and Innovation Frontiers, held as part of the monthly Euro-BioImaging Plant Imaging Expert Group.

Building on the conversations from the annual RE-IMAGINE-CROPS and AgroServ event, the panel brought together experts from across Europe to explore how imaging technologies, AI, and digital tools are transforming agriculture and environmental monitoring.

AI and Imaging for Sustainable Agriculture

The discussion highlighted how AI can analyze field data to optimize fertilizer use, helping reduce both costs and environmental impact. Panelists also explored how imaging technologies can improve our understanding of plant stress, supporting biodiversity and plant health in both agricultural and urban environments.

Making Imaging Technologies More Accessible

Speakers emphasized the growing accessibility of imaging technologies, with new compact and mobile systems making advanced tools available to more farmers, researchers, and urban gardeners. At the same time, the discussion addressed the challenges hardware developers face in scaling and deploying these technologies more widely.

Connecting Science, Technology, and Policy

A key message throughout the panel was that addressing agriculture’s biggest challenges requires an interdisciplinary approach that connects plant science with soil health, climate research, economics, and policy.

Panel Experts from Across Europe

The panel was moderated by Nicola D’Ascenzo (BF Research, Italy) and Ayoub El Ghadraoui (Euro-BioImaging ERIC). Panel members included Jere Kaivosoja (Luke, Finland), Emily Palm (Milano Bicocca, Italy), Paul LeCoq (CERN, Switzerland), Birgit Teunissen (AgroNext, Netherlands), and Laura Elena Pacifici Noja (Italian Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia).

RE-IMAGINE-CROPS Marks One Year with a Collaborative Event on the Future of Agriculture

Thank you all for attending our first in-person event! One year in, we gathered to reflect on the RE-IMAGINE-CROPS journey and then opened our doors for the joint AgroServ Event by Euro-BioImaging. We had researchers, infrastructure providers, industry partners, and stakeholders together exchanging knowledge and discussing the current and future advances required in plant imaging and precision agronomy.
